Goddess of Grain and Agriculture

 

Patron goddess of the Eleusinian Mysteries, a cult based on the myth of Persephone's abduction by Hades and Demeter's subsequent quest to get her back.  (see: Persephone)

 

Parents: Kronos and Rhea

 

Spouse and children: No formal husband, but her daughter Persephone is fathered by her brother Zeus  

 

Epithets: Bountiful, Bringer of Seasons

 

Attributes: wheat sheaves, torch
